Online tool or OpenAI API?

Use this page when you want to create speech without setting up an integration. Voice selection is available here; model selection and separate delivery instructions are not exposed in this editor.

For an application that needs explicit model selection or control over speech output, use the official API documentation. Available models, supported voices, limits, and API prices can change. OpenAI API billing is separate from TTSOpen character packs.

OpenAI text-to-speech questions

What is OpenAI TTS?

OpenAI text to speech converts written text into AI-generated audio. This page gives you a browser interface for the OpenAI voices available on TTSOpen: enter your script, choose a voice, and generate speech.

Can I try OpenAI text to speech for free?

TTSOpen provides a free character allowance to try speech generation without creating an account. This is a TTSOpen allowance, not a free OpenAI API plan. When your allowance runs out, additional usage requires a character pack.

Do I need an OpenAI API key?

No. You do not need to supply an OpenAI API key or write code to use this generator. Developers integrating the OpenAI API directly need their own API access and billing.

How much text can I convert, and can I download it?

The editor displays your current character limit; visitors start with up to 500 characters per request. Signing in can unlock higher limits. You can listen to generated audio here. Download access depends on your account; signed-in accounts without an active membership are prompted to purchase a character pack.

Can I choose the model or add emotion instructions?

This generator offers voice selection, not a model selector or a separate emotion-instructions field. TTSOpen manages the generation configuration. If you need explicit model selection, output formats, or delivery instructions, consult the official OpenAI API documentation.

Is this an official OpenAI tool or OpenAI.fm?

No. TTSOpen is an independent service, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI. OpenAI TTS describes the speech technology; OpenAI.fm refers to a separate demo experience. This page focuses on generating speech with the OpenAI voices available on TTSOpen.
